📍 Place (شوێن)

• IN — 3D enclosure: in Erbil, in the car, in my pocket, in the room.ناوەوەی شتێکی داخراو یان سنووردار (شار، ئۆتۆمبێل، گیرفان، ژوور).
• ON — 2D surface contact & sides: on the desk, on the wall, snow on the mountain, on the right.بەرکەوتن لەگەڵ ڕوویەکی تەخت، هەروەها لای ڕاست/چەپ.
• AT — a specific point: at the bus stop, at the entrance, at the table.خاڵێکی دیاریکراو (وێستگە، دەروازە، لای مێز).
• 💡 Teacher's tip: She sat at the table = on a chair beside it. On the table would mean climbing onto the furniture!«at the table» واتە لەسەر کورسی لای مێزەکە؛ «on the table» واتە سەرکەوتن بۆ سەر مێزەکە!
• next to = by = beside — three words, one meaning.هەرسێکیان یەک واتان: لە تەنیشت.
• between — strictly two things: between Adam and Azad.تەنها بۆ نێوان دوو شت.
• opposite = face-to-face across a line; in front of = ahead of. above = higher, no contact; over = covering / crossing.opposite ڕووبەڕوو لە بەرامبەرەوە؛ in front of لە بەردەم. above بەرزتر بەبێ بەرکەوتن؛ over داپۆشین یان پەڕینەوە.

⚡ Movement (جووڵە)

Golden rule: a preposition of movement needs a verb of motion — drive, fly, sail, walk, run, roll, step, climb, jump, get, go, come.یاسای زێڕین: ئامرازی جووڵە پێویستی بە کرداری جووڵە هەیە. بەبێ کرداری جووڵە، ئامرازەکە شوێن یان کات دەگەیەنێت.

• across — over a flat, open 2D surface: walked across the road, sailed across the river.پەڕینەوە لەم سەر بۆ ئەو سەری ڕوویەکی تەخت و کراوە.
• through — inside a 3D enclosed passage: drive through the tunnel, walk through the forest.تێپەڕین بەناو شتێکی داخراو و سێ ڕەهەندیدا (تونێل، دارستان).
• to = destination (fly to Britain); into = entering the inside (the river runs into the lake); towards = in the direction of, not arriving (going towards the bus stop).to بەرەو مەبەست؛ into چوونە ناوەوە؛ towards بە ئاراستەی شوێنێک بەبێ گەیشتن.
• along — following a line: go along the corridor. over — clearing an obstacle: jumping over the fence. down / up — slopes and stairs. onto — landing on top. round — circling. out of — exiting.along بەدرێژایی؛ over بەسەر بەربەستدا؛ down/up خوارەوە/سەرەوە؛ onto بۆ سەر ڕووێک؛ round بە دەوری؛ out of دەرچوون.
• ⚠️ Exam shocker: We sailed past a little hill — because of sailed, past is a preposition of movement, not time!وشەی past دەکرێت کات بێت (half past two)، بەڵام لەگەڵ کرداری جووڵەی sailed دەبێتە ئامرازی جووڵە!

⏳ Time (کات)

• AT — exact points: at 5:00, at night, at noon, at midnight, at lunch time, at the weekend, at Christmas.کاتی ورد و دیاریکراو: کاتژمێر، شەو، نیوەڕۆ، کاتی نانخواردن، کۆتایی هەفتە.
• ON — days & dates: on Monday, on April 22nd, on New Year's Day, on Friday morning.ڕۆژەکان و بەرواری تەواو (مانگ + ژمارە).
• IN — long periods: in the morning, in December, in 1999, in the 21st century, in summer.ماوە فراوانەکان: بەشەکانی ڕۆژ، مانگ، ساڵ، سەدە، وەرز.
• 👑 The King Day rule: in the morning — but on Friday morning. A day name beats the part of the day. And in April becomes on April 22nd once a number is added.گەورەترین تەڵە: «the morning» بە تەنیا in وەردەگرێت، بەڵام لەگەڵ ناوی ڕۆژ (Friday morning) ڕۆژەکە زاڵە و دەبێتە on. مانگ بە تەنیا in، مانگ + ژمارە on.
• during + event (WHEN): during the lesson; for + number (HOW LONG): for three hours. until 12:30 · by 5 o'clock (deadline) · from 9:30 to 6:00 · between 2000 and 2005.during لەگەڵ ناوی ڕووداو؛ for لەگەڵ ژمارە و ماوە؛ until تا؛ by نەدرەنگتر لە؛ from…to لە…بۆ؛ between…and لە نێوان.
